A tribute to the
’59 Cadillac
by Sheri Roberts
Our final
event of the year was held on November 9, 2008 at Penske Cadillac in
Torrance. Blustering cold Santa Ana winds gave way to a crisp and clear
sunny day.
Calvin had worked very closely with
Reed Amiri and Tom Bowen at Penske and was finally seeing months of hard
work paying off as he witnessed one gorgeous classic Cadillac after
another arrive at the event.
Ray Malzo had his ’59 coupe, Chris
Sabatino his ’59 convertible, Jim Davidson his ’59 sedan, Chris Baptise
his ’59 coupe, and an original ’59 convertible graciously on loan for
the day from the El Segundo Driving Museum.
Time came for the awards and special
presentations. Calvin presented each ’59 owner with a framed
reproduction of the original 1959 Cadillac print ads. Craig Chally did
a fantastic job putting together these one-of-a-kind plaques. Calvin
then presented custom made watches showing a ’59 caddy on the watch
face. It brought instant smiles of pride and appreciation to all the
’59 owners.
After the trophies were handed out
Calvin surprised us all with a personal award from himself to all CLC
board members, and some special members of the Unique Cadillac Club who
helped him out with this event.
After the raffle and the 50/50 was
drawn, the engines began to roar. One by one I watched everyone pull
out of the lot with huge smiles on their faces. The day was a wonderful
success.
A special “thank
you” once again to Calvin and his team who made this day rock…. |
