CLC Past Director-Skip Moore

The Moore's 1940 Fleetwood Formal Sedan. These rare leather-capped customs have a traditional charm that hearkens back to the horse-drawn carriages of centuries past. This sample is largely original. Over the several years he's owned it, Skip has renewed the mechanicals and furbished a few cosmetic items.

If you've ever spoken with an impeccably dressed man in a double breasted Hart, Schafter & Marx suit, with a white-on-white shirt, king-size bow-tie, and two-tone wingtips, and if it was at SoCal show in recent years—you probably already know Skip Moore. If that same distinguished looking gentleman stepped out of a well-polished 1939 or 1940 Fleetwood 75-Series limousine, it was definitely SoCal's regional director.

Although hobby friends call him "Skip", to the rest of the world he is Dr. Walter H. Moore, Jr. Born and raised in Connecticut, Skip went off to college in south Florida before spending two years in the Navy. He completed his Ph.D. at Kent State in 1973 and has been a university professor ever since. Dr. Moore teaches neuro psychology and neuro pathology, disciplines that deal with the way the brain functions. His students become therapists who work with patients with brain related disorders—stroke, accident victims, and so forth.

Skip's love of fine automobiles comes naturally, for his father owned several foreign car dealerships in Connecticut. And, as a boy, he couldn't help but be drawn to the chauffeur-driven Cadillac limousines he often saw plying the wealthy suburbs north of New York City. Big black limos were the local equivalent of dial-a-ride. Today, Skip and his wife, JoAnna, have three big Fleetwoods, two '39 limos and a leather-topped '40 formal.

The Moore's, who have lived in Southern California for 25 years, have four children and two grandchildren. The youngest, Kati, is only eleven, but she shares dad's passion for the high-style 1930's and 40's fashion, and automobiles.
