Ron Duggan 1928 - 2003
At left, Ron Duggan and his step-daughter Jennifer Welker (to the right of him) at Lakewood Country Club in 2002. At right, he takes a rest on the fender of one of his other cars at Lakewood Country Club in 2003.

Ron Duggan spent most of his life in and around Los Angeles County. He was born in City Terrace (Los Angeles) and later went to live on farmland in Gardena, where he was living at the time of his death.

Although Ron’s first job was in an auto repair shop, his career was mostly in federal government service. He worked for the Postal Service (before it was called that). After serving in the U.S. military in the Korean War, he made his career in the U.S. Customs Service. Officer Duggan’s work concentrated on interdiction. It included undercover work to intercept illegal drugs and service as a Sky Marshall, the latter being from 1971-4. Considering his career, it is not surprising that Ron was patriotic. There was an Honor Guard at his funeral.

Ron’s step-daughter, Jennifer Welker, delivered the eulogy at the funeral. She describes him as “strong willed”, “a great father figure”, and a lover of the good old days. Besides the antique car hobby, Ron Duggan also enjoyed painting.

Perhaps because he was a lover of the good old days, Duggan joined the Cadillac-La Salle Club in the early 1990s. Over about the last ten years, he showed at least three of his four cars at our events, two 1941 Cadillacs and a 1947 Cadillac. Members of the Southern California Region who were able to attend his weekday funeral service honored Ron by driving their antique cars.
